The Rufai family has described the death of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper, Prince Peter Rufai, as an irreplaceable loss, expressing deep sorrow at the passing of their beloved father, brother, and national icon.
In an official statement released on Thursday, the family paid tribute to the former Nigerian international, affectionately known as Dodo Mayana, who passed away in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the age of 61 after a brief illness.
While acknowledging the shock that accompanied the news of his passing, the family expressed gratitude for the life he lived, one marked by excellence, patriotism, and inspiration to many.
Recall that Peter represented the country at both USA ’94 and France ’98 and was instrumental in Nigeria’s 1994 Africa Cup of Nations victory.
