The Federal Bureau of Investigation released crime statistics for 2024 yesterday, based on data submitted by more than 16,000 law enforcement agencies across the United States.
The report detailed over 14 million criminal offences, covering a combined population of 95.6 percent United States population, submitted data to the UCR Programme through the National Incident-Based Reporting System and the Summary Reporting System.
According to the FBI, violent crime decreased by an estimated 4.5 percent in 2024 compared to 2023. The report showed that a violent crime occurred on average every 25.9 seconds last year,while murder occurred approximately every 31.1 minutes, while rape was reported roughly every 4.1 minutes.
The breakdown shows on average a murder occurred every 31.1 minutes and a rape occurred every 4.1 minutes. National violent crime decreased an estimated 4.5 percent in 2024 compared to 2023 estimates.
