Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has called for a shift in Nigeria’s leadership selection, urging citizens to prioritise competence, capacity, character, and compassion when choosing leaders. Obi said leadership is either succeeding or failing, and the results are always visible.
He reiterated his long-held position that tribal and religious considerations in leadership choices have severely harmed the country, saying we must move away from voting based on tribe, religion, and begin to vote for people with competence, capacity, character, and compassion.
However, he concluded by stating that Nigeria needs more than just a president, but a leader with competence, capacity, character, and compassion. Until we choose leaders on these principles, the cycle of pain will only continue.
